Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do you guarantee to get a domain for me? What happens if you do not get my first choice?
No, neither name:warden nor any other service can guarantee to win you a domain if and when it expires.
The process is inherently slightly random and if the domain you are trying to backorder is popular and
many people are using competing services or their own software to register the domain then the chance of
a successful registration are dramatically reduced. We cannot give an estimate of the likelihood of us
being able to register any individual domain because of the nature of the process however we believe
name:warden's software to be at least as good if not better than other online providers.
If we fail to register your first choice of domain then you may log into your
account and change your subscription to another domain. If this is expiring
then we will backorder this for you for the remainder of your 1 year subscription,
or you may select an unregistered domain in which case it will be registered
for you immediately. You may change your subscription domain up to 10 times
during the period of your subscription. We do not issue refunds if we are unable
to register a domain on your behalf.
2. Do you charge for traferring a domain to another provider once it has been registered?
No. If we register a name on your behalf, then you may free of charge transfer the IPSTAG in the
case of a UK domain or the domain itself in the case of other domains. We cannot guarantee that you will
not be charged by the receiving organisation but we will not make a charge for this.
3. What are DNS servers?
DNS servers are the machines on the internet which tell other computers
where to find your domain (web pages, email, etc) on the internet. DNS server
information must be provided to domain registries when a domain is registered.
4. I don't have any DNS servers, can you provide some for me?
We try to keep prices down by keeping our service as simple as possible. If you do
not already have DNS servers, there are a few free domain name services around, and
one of the best we have seen is www.mydomain.com. Create an account in mydomain and
then enter the mydomain nameservers as your DNS servers in your namewarden account.
The my domain nameservers are NS1.MYDOMAIN.COM & NS2.MYDOMAIN.COM. At the time of
writing, their IP addresses were 64.94.117.195 and 216.52.121.233 respectively.
5. Do you keep a list of domain names due to expire?
No we do not keep such a list. You can normally find these by searching on the internet.
6. Can I pay over the phone?
Yes this is possible, however we will only use the same interface as you would on
your account. It is quicker and easier to enter your payment information online
through our secure server.
7. Can I pay by invoice instead of credit
card?
Normally no this is not possible. We can accept payment by invoice for UK
corporate customers by arrangement. This will only be considered for purchases
totalling
over £250, however the name:warden service will not start
until payment
has been received so it is always beneficial to pay by credit card if possible.
8.
I want to change my namewarden domain to be backordered. How do I do this?
Simply log into your account and click on the "change domain" link next
to the backorder you wish to change. You can then enter a new domain name
to be backordered, and this will be changed immediately.
Please note
that you can only change to a name within the same TLD as the original registration
(eg abc.com to cba.com, but not abc.com to abc.co.uk).
9. What is the expiration process for UK domain names?
Once a domain name has gone past its renew date, the domain goes into Renewal Required
status and the domain is deactivated (web pages, email, etc. will not work), however the
domain is still legally owned by current registrant and may still be renewed by them.
Nominet attempts to contact the registrant to confirm that they definitely do not want
the domain name. 21 days after this has been done (or no contact has been received),
the domain enters 'Suspended' status. The domain is finally cancelled 6-8 weeks after
entering the Suspended status, although there is no way to know exactly when this will
happen. If the domain is not already in suspended status it is very difficult to tell
when it will become available.
10. What is the expiration process for International domain names?
Once a domain name has done past its renew date, the domain is deactivated (web pages,
email, etc. will not work). As above the domain is still legally owned by current
registrant and may still be renewed by them. After a period of about 40 days, the d
omain goes into a status of 'Redemption Period'. The domain may still be renewed by
its previous owner, but it is expensive to do so. After 30 days redemption period,
the domain goes into 'Pending Delete' status. The domain will be available to register
roughly 5 days after the domain enters 'Pending Delete' status.
11. Why does my new UK domain name have a status of 'Registration request being processed'?
When we have successfully registered a UK domain name on your behalf, the domain is
immediately available for use. However, the domain will have a status of 'Registration request
being processed'. This means we have not yet been invoiced on account for the domain by Nominet
which happens on a monthly basis. After a few weeks the status will change to the standard,
'Registered until renewal date'.
